LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release August 28, 2007 Record Setting Performance Dooms Lady Railsplitters
HARROGATE, TN – Clayton State University’s Olaitan Yusuf scored two goals to become the career goals leader (68) in the Peach Belt Conference and at Clayton State en route to a 2-1 win over the Lincoln Memorial University women’s soccer team on LMU’s Les Gibbs Field Tuesday evening.
Yusuf scored the first of her two goals only 6:59 into the match to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. Following a defensive struggle between the two teams for the remainder of the first half, LMU newcomer Karina Campos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) caught a pass from freshman teammate Becky Thompson (Frederick, MD) and slammed it in to tie the match at 1-1 at 67:22.
With the match now up for grabs, the Lady Railsplitters shelled Clayton State with numerous shots on goal but were denied time and again. With less than 15 minutes to play, CSU’s Yusuf made a run down the middle and was hit with a precision pass by teammate Teresa Smith-Dack. Yusuf, chipped a shot into the upper half of the goal and again put the Lakers on top 2-1.
Although the Lady Railsplitters out shot Clayton State more then two to one in the match, the Laker defense held off the LMU attack down the stretch and CSU captured its first win of the season to improve to 1-0.
The Lady Railsplitters fall to 1-1 on the year and will travel to Aiken, South Carolina this Saturday to take on the University of South Carolina-Aiken. The LMU women play their next home match September 8 when they host Newberry College in the South Atlantic Conference opener. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
