LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release November 8, 2007 LMU Soccer Teams Have Candidates For All-American HARROGATE, TN – Several Lincoln Memorial University soccer players received word this week they were on the Daktronics national ballot for All-American. In order to qualify for the Daktronics All-American ballot, a student-athlete must have first been named to the Daktronics All-Region team in their respective region. The voting process is a poll taken of the sports information directors throughout the region based on statistical information from the recent season, combined with personal athletic achievement from the student-athlete’s entire collegiate career. This year, Lincoln Memorial University has several soccer players that have qualified for the Daktronics national ballot. From the Lincoln Memorial University women’s soccer team, Heloisa de Oliveira (Campinas, Brazil) represents the Lady Railsplitters. This season Oliveira became the LMU women’s soccer program’s all-time leading goal scorer, assist leader and career points leader. Throughout her career, Oliveira has led the Lady Railsplitters to three national tournament appearances, two conference tournament championships and one region title and elite-eight appearance. For her efforts, Oliveira was named First Team All-South Atlantic Conference, to the South Atlantic Conference All-Tournament Team, First Team Daktronics All-Southeast Region and Southeast Region Player of the Year. The LMU men’s soccer program has three representatives on the 2007 Daktronics All-American ballot. Railsplitter sophomore defender Felipe Nogueira (Uberaba, Brazil) and senior forward Nelson Pizzaro (Pembroke Pines, FL) make their first appearance on the ballot after helping the LMU men win the 2006 Appalachian Region title, a 2006 Elite-Eight title and a spot in last year’s NCAA Division II Final Four. This year the Railsplitters won the South Atlantic Conference regular season title, the 2007 SAC Tournament Championship and will enter Friday’s first round of the Appalachian Region Tournament as the #1 seed. Nogueira was named All-South Atlantic Conference First Team and to the SAC All-Tournament Team while Pizzaro was named Second Team All-South Atlantic Conference and earned 2007 SAC Tournament MVP. Making his second appearance on the Daktronics national ballot is LMU sophomore forward Leandro Pereira (Brasilia, Brazil). Pereira earned First Team All-Appalachian Region honors in 2006, was named Appalachian Region Player of the Year and First Team All-American while helping the LMU men win last year’s region title, and Elite-Eight crown and make a trip to the NCAA Division II Final Four. This year Nogueira was named First Team All-South Atlantic Conference, South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, named to the SAC All-Tournament Team and Daktronics All-Appalachian Region Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. This Friday both LMU soccer teams will compete in NCAA Regional play with the Lady Railsplitters playing Armstrong Atlantic in the first round of the Southeast Regional Tournament in Savannah, Georgia and the Railsplitters taking on Wingate University in the first round of the Appalachian Regional Tournament in Greeneville, Tennessee. -LMU- For additional comments please contact, |
