OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release September 17, 2007 LMU Cross Country Team Turn In Another Strong Finish At Wingate Invitational WINGATE, NC – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s and women’s cross country teams turned in another strong performance over the weekend when they traveled to Wingate, North Carolina and finish 4th and 5th respectively in the Wingate Invitational. Railsplitter senior Jeremy Donahue (Sevierville, TN) again set the pace for the Lincoln Memorial men, finishing 5th overall with a time of 34:28 in the 10K race. Teammate Ted Johnson (Winneconne, WI) wasn’t far off the pace, finishing in 7th place in 35:00 minutes flat. LMU junior Mark Paulson (Neenah, WI) came in 21st a minute later in 36:03 to round out the Railsplitters that finished in the top-25. LMU sophomore Josh Armentrout (Jonesborough, TN) narrowly missed the field of 25, completing the race in at time of 36:21 to finish 26th overall, while Kyle Henderson (Lyn, Ontario, Canada) was 36th with a time of 37:17. Newcomer to the Railsplitter program David Mullins (Clintwood, VA) also earned a spot inside the top-50 with a time of 37:28. LMU dual-sport athlete Andras Pauko (Budapest, Hungary) and former Railsplitter tennis standout now cross country runner Peter Kurhajec (Zilina, Slovakia) came in 66th and 78th respectively. Pauko ran the race in 39:25, while Kurhajec finished in 40:54. In the women’s race, Lincoln Memorial place 5th among the 15 teams running the race. LMU’s Kathleen Rollet (Bouge Chambalud, France) led the charge for the Lady Railsplitters, finishing 20th in the 6K race in 26:14. LMU’s Michelle Ratliff (Jonesborough, TN) and Emily Osborne (Ewing, VA) were 29th and 30th, completing the race in 26:45 and 26:54. Lady Railsplitters Jennifer Ely (Jonesville, VA) and Deidre Ratliff (Jonesborough, TN) finished inside the top half of the field. Ely ran the race in 28:09 while the second half of the sisters Ratliff crossed the line in 28:14. The Lady Splitters remaining two contestants, Jessica Brandes (Maryville, TN) and Lindsay Parda (Melbourne, FL) rounded out the field of LMU runners. Brandes was 69th in 29:08, while Parda finished 96th in 31:43. Both LMU teams have next weekend off before traveling to Louisville, Kentucky September 29 for the Greater Louisville Classic. Including the race in Louisville, the LMU cross country teams have only three races remaining before competing in the South Atlantic Conference Championship October 20 in Salisbury, North Carolina. -LMU-
