Lee County Natives Give LMU Strong Representation On Preseason SAC Women’s Cross Country Teams

HARROGATE, TN – Lee County Virginia natives Emily Burke (Ewing, VA) and Jennifer Ely (Jonesville, VA) were named to the Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference First and Second Teams released this week by the conference office in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Burke, a junior, earned All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team honors last season while helping the Lady Railsplitters finish second on the conference championship held at Black Mountain, North Carolina.  Following that meet, the Lady Railsplitters participated in the NCAA Southeast Regional meet where they finished second, earning their first ever trip to the NCAA Division II National Women’s Cross Country Championship last fall.  As the top returning runner for the Lady Railsplitters, she has been named to the 2007 Preseason All-SAC First Team.

Ely, only a sophomore, was nearly a unanimous choice for the Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team.  Last year the Jonesville High School product was one of the top five finishers for the Lady Railsplitters in nearly all their races and played a big roll in the Lady Railsplitters postseason success.

The Lady Railsplitters open the 2007 schedule this Saturday when they travel to Cleveland, Tennessee for the Lee Invitational.  LMU’s only home meet of the year will be October 13 when they host the Railsplitter 5K on homecoming weekend.
