OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release October 20, 2007 Railsplitter Cross Country Team Takes 2nd At SAC Championship SALISBURY, NC – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s cross country team may have run their way into the NCAA regional meet on Saturday morning, as the Railsplitters took 2nd place at the South Atlantic Conference Championship in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Finishing behind Champion Mars Hill College, the Railsplitters took second place honors by finishing ahead of conference members Wingate University (3rd), Lenoir-Rhyne College (4th), Newberry College (5th), Catawba College (6th) and Tusculum College who finished 7th.
Three Railsplitters earned All-South Atlantic Conference honors by finishing in the top-14. The top 14 finishers earn all-conference honors with the top seven taking first team honors. LMU’s Ted Johnson (Winneconne, WI) was the fastest of the Railsplitters on Saturday, placing 7th in 26:20.08. LMU senior Jeremy Donahue (Sevierville, TN) was literally on Johnson’s heels, finishing 8th in 26:20.82. LMU’s Mark Paulson (Neenah, WI) rounded out the top-10 in 26:48.85. All earn all-conference honors.
The remainder of the Railsplitter participants in the race finished as follows, Josh Armentrout (Jonesborough, TN) (19th place 27:16.84), Kyle Henderson (Lyn, Ontario, Canada) (26th place 27:46.43), David Mullins (Clintwood, VA) (33rd place 28:32.95), Andras Pauko (Budapest, Hungary) (42nd place 29:37.87) and Peter Kurhajec (Zilina, Slovakia) (46th place 30:04.93).
The Railsplitters must now play a waiting game to see if they qualify for the upcoming NCAA Southeast Regional race that will be run November 3 in Wingate, North Carolina. -LMU-
