LMU Cross Country Teams Run In The Greater Louisville Classic

HARROGATE, TN – Over the weekend, the Lincoln Memorial University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Greater Louisville Classic held in Louisville, Kentucky.

Teams an participants from all over the eastern half of the United States competed in the race, including NCAA Division I, Division II, Division II and NAIA institutions as well as many runners that competed individually.

The Lincoln Memorial University men’s cross country team finished 4th in their category with senior Jeremy Donahue (Sevierville, TN) placing highest among the squad in 7th place.  Donahue ran the 8K race in 26:32.73 to finish among the top-10.  Also finishing inside the top-10 was LMU’s Ted Johnson (Winneconne, WI).  Johnson’s time of 26:37.02 was good enough to help him finish in 9th place.

Narrowly finishing outside the top-25 was Railsplitter junior Mark Paulson (Neenah, WI).  Paulson placed 30th in the race with a time of 27:29.99 while sophomore Josh Armentrout (Jonesborough, TN) came in 41st in 27:49.50. 

Also competing for Lincoln Memorial were David Mullins (Clintwood, VA), Kyle Henderson (Lyn, Ontario, Canada) and Peter Kurhajec (Zilina, Slovakia).  Mullins finished the race in 58th place with a time of 28:22.13, while Henderson was close behind in 63rd place in 28:29.17.  Kurhajec rounded out the field of LMU runners by finished 100th in 30:15.33.

As a squad the Railsplitters finished behind Southeast Missouri State (1st), Franklin College (2nd) and Wilmington College (3rd).  Lincoln Memorial finished ahead of Saint Joseph’s College (5th), University of Southern Indiana (6th), University of the Cumberlands (7th), Lindenwood University (8th), Berea College (9th), Bellarmine University (10th), Kentucky State University (11th), College of Mt. St. Joseph (12th), Gordon College (14th), Hanover College (15th) and Asbury College (16th).

The Lincoln Memorial University women’s cross country team also participated in Saturday’s race, finishing 9th among the 15 teams in their category.  The LMU women were paced by senior Michelle Ratliff (Jonesborough, TN) who placed 33rd in the 5K run with a time of 20:56.75.  Teammate Kathleen Rollet (Bouge Chambalud, France) was only a few seconds behind as she completed the distance in 21:08.34 in 37th place.  LMU senior Emily Burke (Ewing, VA) who has been nursing an injury battled through the pain to place 47th with a time of 21:18.43, while Jennifer Ely (Jonesville, VA) was 56th, coming in with a 21:36.41.

LMU’s Deidre Ratliff (Jonesborough, TN), Jessica Brandes (Maryville, TN) Lindsay Parda (Melbourne, FL) and Ginny Bumpus (Hendersonville, TN) also finished strong.  Ratliff placed 71st in 22:09.37, while Brandes was 85th in 23:05.54.  Bumpus finished 129th in 27:42.67.

Finishing ahead of Lincoln Memorial were St. Joseph’s College (1st), Franklin College (2nd), University of the Cumberlands (3rd), University of Detroit Mercy (4th), Wilmington College (5th), Hanover College (6th), Lindenwood University (7th) and Bellarmine University (8th). Finishing behind LMU was Queens University (10th), Montreat College (11th), Asbury College (12th), College of Mt. St. Joseph (13th), Berea College (14th) and University of Saint Francis (15th).
