Early Signing Period Helps LMU Secure Wagner

HARROGATE, TN – Although the 2006-07 season hasn’t begun yet, Lincoln Memorial University women’s basketball coach Roger Vannoy has been hard at work recruiting for next season.

On Friday morning, Vannoy announced that Stephanie Wagner, a 5’9” product of Elkhart, Indiana was the first player to sign with the Lady Railsplitters for the 2007-08 season.

Wagner played her prep career for Head Coach Gene Johnson at Jimtown High School.  During her junior year, Wagner averaged 21.1 points per game and pulled 6.3 rebounds while averaging 1.3 assists.

Wagner, a three-year starter for Jimtown, was named all-conference as a freshman, sophomore and junior in addition to leading her conference in scoring all three years.  She was the South Bend Tribune area scoring leader as a sophomore and the Elkhart County scoring leader as a sophomore and junior.  In addition she is a top ten returning scorer in the state of Indiana.  As a junior, she led the state in free throw shooting and was selected for the IBCA-IHSAA girl’s basketball showcase and the Nike Blue Star All-America invitational camp.

As a student, Wagner is enrolled in Indiana Honors Diploma courses, holds a 3.55 GPA and has a class rank of 21 of 143 seniors.  Stephanie is the daughter of Dave and Pam Wagner of Elkhart, Indiana and will be majoring in Elementary Education when she enrolls at Lincoln Memorial University next fall.
