LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release March 7, 2006 LMU Women’s Basketball Signee Qualifies for Indiana Top-40
A native of Yorktown, Indiana, Winney became the first recruit to sign early with Lincoln Memorial University for the 2006-07 season back in November of 2005. Since that time, the 6’0” Indiana high school basketball standout has added to an already impressive resume by putting together the best numbers of her career in her senior season with the Yorktown Lady Tigers. This year Winney hit an all-time best 60.8% of her shots from the field, 67.1% from the free throw line, scored a season best 434 points this year for an average of 20.7% points per game and pulled 12 rebounds per outing. This year’s stats combined with the voting of the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association Coaches Poll drew the attention of Gary Donna, the person responsible for compiling this year’s Hoosier Basketball Magazine TABS Top 40 Senior Girls. Two sessions of the Top 40 Workout will be hosted by Hoosier Basketball Magazine in conjunction with the IHSAA and the IBCA on Sunday, March 12 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Twenty girls of the Top 40, primarily from northern and southern Indiana, will participate in the first session (1:00-3:00pm EST). The remaining 20 girls of the Top 40, primarily from central Indiana, will compete during the second session (3:30-5:30 pm EST). Ten alternates will also participate in drills and scrimmages-five in each session. When she joins the Lady Railsplitters in late August for fall semester classes and preseason workouts, Winney will be majoring in Veterinary Technology at Lincoln Memorial University. She is the daughter of Wayne and Gail Winney of Yorktown, Indiana.-LMU- For additional
