UNA Women Hold Off Lady Railsplitter Charge

FLORENCE, AL – In spite of numerous comebacks throughout the second half of play, the University of North Alabama Lady Lions were able to fend off the Lady Railsplitters in the final minutes of play Sunday afternoon to come away with a 69-58 win. (Box score)

Playing a game that was supposed to have been played on Saturday, the Lady Railsplitters led until midway through the first half but fell behind for good when UNA’s Amber Rutherford and India Hackman went to work on the inside.  Rutherford finished as the Lady Lions leading scorer with 15 points, while Hackman picked up the trash, pulling 13 rebounds and scoring 14 points to finish with a double-double.

LMU was led by guard Madeline Richards (Floyds Knobs, IN) who scored a game-high 19 points and was the only Lady Railsplitter in double figures.  Richards got most of her points at the free throw line, hitting a perfect 11 of 11 before game’s end.

Contributing factors to the loss were 36.2% shooting from the floor by the Lady Railsplitters, 22 turnovers, 13 of which came in the second half, and losing the battle of the boards to UNA.

The Lady Railsplitters now have to pull their game together in a short amount of time to play the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Monday evening in Huntsville, Alabama.  LMU’s second game in as many nights is due to Saturday's game being pushed back to Sunday because of weather conditions in the northern Alabama region.
