Slow Offensive Start Sinks Lady Railsplitters

VALDOSTA, GA – On Monday night, the Valdosta State Lady Blazers came away with their second win of the year by holding the Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitters to only 13 points in the first half for a 55-45 win. (Box score

The loss marked LMU’s second of the current road trip as the Lady Railsplitters were narrowly defeated by West Florida on Saturday night 60-53.  The LMU women now stand at 3-8 in league play and will travel to North Alabama and Alabama-Huntsville next weekend.

The Lady Railsplitters' strongest offensive output Monday night came from junior Latoya Johnson (Miami, FL).  Johnson scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds in the losing effort.

While the LMU women mathematically still have a chance to qualify for the GSC Tournament in March, the trip to North Alabama and Alabama-Huntsville won’t be an easy one.  Stereotypically the Lady Railsplitters have never won many games in UNA’s Flowers Hall and the UAH women currently battling for third place in the GSC East.

The Lady Railsplitters will play their final home game of the season February 25, when they host the University of West Georgia on senior night in the Tex Turner Arena.  On that night, LMU will say goodbye to senior Candice Rose (Mckee, KY) and four-year letter winners Chasity Williams (Evansville, IN) and Katie DePersio (Knoxville, TN).
