Lady Railsplitters Battle West Florida to the Wire But Fall Short

PENSACOLA, FL – Although the Lincoln Memorial University women put up a tremendous fight Saturday evening, the Lady Argonauts of West Florida were able to maintain first place possession of the Gulf South Conference Eastern Division with a 60-53 win over LMU to improve to 8-1 in league play. (Box score)

Poor shooting both at the line and from the field were the major contributing factors in the Lady Railsplitters' demise.  LMU hit only 47.6% from the free throw line and 34.5% from the field.  LMU's defensive pressure throughout the entire contest did cause the Lady Argonauts problems most of the evening however and allowed the Lady Railsplitters to create offense off of West Florida turnovers.

Chasity Williams (Evansville, IN) and Madeline Richards (Floyds Knobs, IN) each had 13 points for the Lady Railsplitters.  Lincoln Memorial junior Latoya Johnson (Miami, FL) also scored double figures and led the Lady Splitters on the glass with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The loss drops the Lady Railsplitters to 7-16 overall and 3-7 in league play heading into Monday night’s road game with Valdosta State University.  The LMU women and the Lady Blazers are set for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off in “The Complex” on the VSU campus.
