LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release February 4, 2006 Lady Railsplitters Step on Tigers Tail HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitters snapped a three-game losing skid Saturday night with a 65-63 win over the Lady Tigers of West Alabama in GSC Eastern Division play. (Box score) Playing for the final time as GSC opponents, the Lady Railsplitters managed to establish an early lead and never relinquish it despite a strong West Alabama charge late in the game. Three point shooting by Madeline Richards (Floyds Knobs, IN), Chasity Williams (Evansville, IN) and Candice Rose (McKee, KY) got the LMU momentum going early in the game. Richards finished the night with 22 points on six of twelve shooting from behind the arc, while Rose was four of eight from the field and two for three behind the arc for 12. Williams struggled somewhat in the first half due to foul trouble and then picked up the majority of her 10 points in the final twenty minutes of play. The victory was helped along by strong rebounding in the second half by LMU. West Alabama dominated the boards in the first half, but the Lady Railsplitters closed the gap in the second half and narrowly took the advantage by game’s end to out rebound UWA by one board. For West Alabama, only Emily Nalls was able to get into double figures. Nalls scored 17 points to carry the Lady Tigers, while the team’s leading scorer for the year, Veronica Lee was held to six points on just one of seven shooting from the floor. With only two home games remaining this season and four on the road, the chance that the Lady Railsplitters will make the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament in Tupelo, Mississippi is still mathematically possible but highly unlikely. Still, there is a great deal to play for and this Monday night the Lady Railsplitters will try to regain some of the respect that has been lost this season when they play host to the University of Montevallo for the final time. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. in the Turner Arena. -LMU- For additional
