Braves Stay Hot, Beat LMU

CARROLLTON, GA -- As the first half of the GSC women's season comes to a close, the West Georgia Braves are still one of the hottest teams around, winning their sixth straight tonight, a 66-51 victory over Lincoln Memorial.  (Box score)

LMU came out firing early on, opening up a 5-2 lead in the first three minutes of the contest. But All-America candidate Tai Ellis and the Braves wouldn't let that lead stay for long, as UWG came roaring back over the next eigh minutes, taking a 17-12 lead with 8:38 left in the opening half.

West Georgia kept pushing over the final eight minutes, and Ellis' three-pointer gave the Braves a 31-20 lead heading into halftime.

The adversity against Lincoln Memorial came early in the second half, as the Lady Railsplitters erased a 13-point deficit, going from a 38-25 score to being down just 40-37 in a four-minute span on a three pointer by Madeline Richards. But Yvonne Killings and Ellis pushed the lead back out to 13 at 50-37 with 9:59 left in the game.

The Braves' advantage reached its highest point on a Natasha Liggins layup with 3:52 left in the contest, as UWG led 64-46 and coasted into the finish.

Ellis continued her tear through the conference schedule, scoring 27 points to lead West Georgia on the night. Liggins followed suit with 14 and Killings had 13.

Richards led LMU with 13 points, followed by Candice Rose with 11.  Rose also led the Lady Railsplitters on the boards with six.

The Braves move to 13-7 on the year and 6-1 in GSC play while LMU falls to 5-14 overall and 1-6 in the conference. West Georgia has a week off in preparation for Montevallo next Saturday night.  LMU travels to Lee on Monday.
