Lady Splitters Show Improvement in Loss to West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, AL – Although the Lady Railsplitter basketball team suffered its eleventh loss of the season Saturday night and its third conference loss, LMU Head Coach Roger Vannoy felt his squad continued to show improvement. (Box score)

The Lady Railsplitters trailed by as many as 12 points early in the game, only to battle back midway through the second half to take their first lead against West Alabama at the 10:25 mark.  The two teams see-sawed back and forth until the final two minutes when the Lady Tigers pulled away for the 70-62 win over LMU.

Lady Railsplitter sophomore Heather Benton (Wooton, KY) led Lincoln Memorial in scoring and rebounding.  Benton came off the bench to score 23 points and pull nine rebounds, while teammate Madeline Richards (Floyds Knobs, IN) contributed another 16.

With the first game of a two-game road swing now in the books, the LMU women will try to use Sunday and the first part of Monday to prepare for the Lady Falcons of Montevallo on Monday evening.  The meeting between the Lady Railsplitters and Montevallo will be the first of two this season and gets underway at 6:30 p.m. in Montevallo, Alabama.
