LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release December 18, 2007 Lady Railsplitters Survive Late Run By Lady Oaks OAKLAND CITY, IN – The Lincoln Memorial University women’s basketball team improved to 5-4 Tuesday evening with a 66-58 win over Oakland City University in Oakland City, Indiana. The Lady Railsplitters used defense, rebounding and free throw shooting to defeat the Lady Oaks for the second time this season. The Lady Railsplitters forced 21 OCU turnovers while out rebounding their opponent 42-31 and hitting 15-18 shots from the charity strip for 83.3% shooting from the line.
LMU junior Shawna Nicols (Milwaukee, WI) led all scorers with 20 points, 14 of which came in the first half of play. Nicols also led the team in rebounding, pulling 11 boards in nearly 36 minutes of play. Junior guard Kara Harris (Alcoa, TN) scored all of her 11 points in the second half, including two three-pointers late in the game that helped to lift the LMU women to their fifth win of the season.
Senior forward Heather Benton (Wooton, KY) was the only other Lady Railsplitter in double-figures as she scored 10 points of 5-10 shooting from the floor.
Oakland City University put three players in double figures, including Karissa Walter who scored 18 points to lead the Lady Oaks. Forward Chelsea Miller added 17 points and center Kristi McVey added 10.
Now 5-4 on the year, the Lady Railsplitters will take on St. Joseph’s on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time before each team member goes their separate ways for the upcoming Christmas break. Thursday’s game will be broadcast on the LMU Sports Network. -LMU- For additional
