Richards Named SAC Women's Basketball POW

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Lincoln Memorial University’s Madeline Richards has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 10.  It was announced today by the league office.  Richards, a native of Floyds Knobs, Ind., helped the Railsplitters to a pair of wins last week and also became a member of LMU’s 1,000-point club.

She is also the first LMU athlete in any sport to be named Player of the Week since LMU joined the South Atlantic Conference in June.

Richards, a former standout at Floyd Central High School, scored 20 points in a 71-59 win at Brevard and added 11 points in a 54-49 win at Virginia State.  She became the 16th player to eclipse the 1,000-point barrier in the win over Virginia State, while she set a new school record with her 164th career three-pointer in the win over Brevard.

Against Brevard, the senior guard hit on seven-of-eight shots from the floor, including making three-of-four from behind the arc.  She added three rebounds and a pair of steals.  Richards hit on three-of-five shots at Virginia State and made her one lone three-point try.  She also had four rebounds and three assists in the win.

For the week, Richards averaged 15.5 points and shot 77% from the floor, making 10-of-13 tries.  She was four-of-five on three-pointers and hit seven-of-eight from the line.  She averaged 3.5 rebounds with four assists and three steals.

The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is voted on by the Sports Information Directors of the nine member schools.
