HARROGATE, TN – The Lady Eagles of Carson-Newman College entered the Tex Turner Arena on Saturday evening and handed the Lincoln Memorial University women’s basketball team its first conference loss of the season in a 72-59 decision. (Box score)

The Lady Railsplitters, now 2-3 on the year, never led in the contest and trailed by as many as 23 points on two different occasions.  LMU’s low shooting percentage from the field and behind the arc contributed to the Lady Railsplitter’s first conference loss of the season.

Free throw shooting proved to be one of the key factors in the win for Carson-Newman.  The Lady Eagles made 37 trips to the line on Saturday night, knocking down 30-37 for 81.1% from the free throw line.  The Lady Railsplitters hit 73.3% from the line but only managed to get fifteen attempts at the line, hitting 11 of those.

Carson-Newman put three players in double-figures with Ashley Kyle leading the way with 18 points.  Emily Mason and TaShea Ledbetter added 16 and 10 points respectively.

Only two Lady Railsplitter players scored double figures on Saturday.  Sophomore Andi Winney (Yorktown, IN) finished the night with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds while senior point-guard Shawna Nicols (Milwaukee, WI) contributed 15 points and three assists.

Now 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the South Atlantic Conference, the Lady Railsplitters will now prepare for North Greenville University on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the Tex Turner Arena.
