Lady Railsplitters Win Over USC Upstate In Overtime

HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University women’s basketball team improved captured its second win Tuesday evening with an 80-69 overtime victory over the Spartans of the University of South Carolina Upstate. (Box score)

The Lady Railsplitters countered the Spartans athleticism and transition game with three point shooting and the inside-outside play of forward Heather Benton (Wooton, KY) and Betsey Bowser (Galveston, IN).  Benton scored 15 of her game-high 22 points in the second half while Bowser added another 17 to help the Lady Railsplitters come away with the overtime victory. 

Lady Railsplitter senior guard Madeline Richards (Floyds Knobs, IN) struggled from the field offensively but managed to hit six free throws down the stretch to help extend the Lincoln Memorial lead and secure the win.

The University of South Carolina Upstate was led by Kianna Smith with 17 points, while teammates Shavon Thompson finished with 16 and Danielle Edwards recorded the double-double with 15 points and 15 boards.

The Spartans fall to 1-3 overall while Lincoln Memorial improves to 2-1 and will take several days off to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday.  The Lady Railsplitters will resume their schedule next Tuesday night when they play host to Brevard College in the Turner Arena at 6:00 p.m.
