Lady Railsplitters Sign Harris

HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University women's basketball coach Roger Vannoy recently announced the signing of Kara Harris to attend LMU play basketball for the Lady Railsplitters.

Harris, a 5'5" guard from Alcoa, Tennessee, comes to LMU via Walters State Community College.  At Walters State, she helped lead the Lady Senators to a 21-10 record and the semifinals of the TJCCAA Tournament in the 2005-06 season.  Currently she is averaging 10.4 points and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 50 percent from three-point range.  The Lady Senators are currently 4-1.

"Kara is a great kid," said Walters State coach Dave Kragel. "I am confident that she will be an asset to LMU's program."

Prior to Walters State, Harris was a standout at Alcoa High School where she was named All-District for three years and All-Region for all four years of her prep career.  Harris scored 1800 points; hit 237 three-pointers; had 220 steals and pulled down 564 rebounds while playing for the Lady Tornados.  She also has a Tennessee state championship in track (4x1) and was named Who's Who in Basketball and Honorable Mention All-American while at Alcoa.

"Kara should contribute immediately at the point position next year," said Vannoy.  "She is very quick, a hard-nosed competitor and leader and an outstanding three-point shooter."

Kara is the daughter of John and Eugenia Harris and plans to major in nursing while at LMU.
