LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release November 1, 2007 Exhibition With Belmont University Gives Lady Railsplitter Basketball Team Areas To Work On NASHVILLE, TN – The NCAA Division I Bruins of Belmont University defeated the Lady Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University Thursday evening in exhibition play by the final of 74-36. (Box score)
Under the first year direction of Head Coach Larry Just, the Lady Railsplitters came out of the gate with fire in their eyes however, turnovers proved to be a large contributing factor in the inflated losing deficit. The Lady Railsplitters committed 31 turnovers on the night, while BU had only 12.
LMU managed only 39% from the field on 15-40 shooting and was never able to get the three-point game going as they hit only 1-8 shots from behind the arc. Belmont hit a blistering 50% from the field, including 12-21 three-pointers for 75% from behind the outside circle.
While the game doesn’t go in the record books as a win or a loss for either team, it will give LMU Head Coach Larry Just a benchmark as to where his team stands and what they need to work on. The Lady Railsplitters won’t officially open the 2007-08 schedule until they take on Clayton State University in the Carson-Newman Eagle Club Classic on November 16. That game will be held in Jefferson City, Tennessee and gets underway at 6:00 p.m. -LMU- For additional
