LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release February 20, 2008 Lady Splitters Win Last Home SAC Game
HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University women’s basketball team knocked off visiting Catawba College 71-60 on Wednesday evening in their last home South Atlantic Conference basketball game of the regular season. (Box score) The Lady Railsplitters used high percentage shooting (45.7%), a solid effort on the boards and excellent care of the basketball to come away with their third win of the year in league play and their twelfth win overall. LMU’s Andi Winney (Yorktown, IN) finished with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the night in both categories. Lady Railsplitter junior Shawna Nicols (Milwaukee, WI) was the only other LMU player to score double figures. Nicols hit 11-12 free throws in Wednesday’s game, ten of which came in the second half to help carry LMU to victory. Catawba was led by the outside shooting of Sicilia LoSauro. LoSauro scored 16 points, while teammate NeKeithia Howard went to war on the inside to contribute 11. Catawba guard Brittany Higgins also contributed 10 points in the Catawba Indians fourteenth loss of the year, their ninth in South Atlantic Conference play. Catawba falls to 10-14 overall and 3-9 in league play while Lincoln Memorial improves to 12-12 overall and 3-9 in the South Atlantic Conference heading into this Saturday’s conference road meeting with arch-rival Carson-Newman College.
