HARROGATE, TN – In a game that went down to the wire, the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne College left Lincoln Memorial University’s Tex Turner Arena on Saturday night with a narrow 49-47 win over the Lady Railsplitters, dropping the LMU women below the .500 mark for the first time this season. (Box score)
Lincoln Memorial and Lenoir-Rhyne entered Saturday’s South Atlantic Conference game as near mirror images of each other. The Lady Railsplitters and the Bears both carried 11-11 overall records into the contest and both had 2-8 league marks enter the game. After Saturday night’s game, one of the two teams would fall below the .500 mark, a place the Lady Railsplitters have not been all season.
Neither team led by more then seven points throughout the contest and it was Lenoir-Rhyne College that took a narrow two point 27-25 margin into the locker room following the first twenty minutes of play.
In the second half, the Lady Railsplitters and the Bear continued to go toe-to-toe, with LMU leading until the 1:08 mark when LRC’s LaCourtney Rann tied the game on a jumper in the lane. In the final minute of play, the Bear’s were able to get to the free throw line and knock down two shots which turned out to be the difference in the game and Lenoir-Rhyne came away with the 49-47 win over LMU.
Rann led all scorers with 17 points, while LRC’s Amber Holt, Jacquelyn Kremer and LMU’s Andi Winney (Yorktown, IN) and Megan Davis (Petersburg, IN) all contributed 10 points each.
Now 11-12 overall and 2-9 in the South Atlantic Conference, the Lady Railsplitters still have four games remaining on the schedule to come away with a winning regular season record. The Lady Railsplitters will host Catawba College on Wednesday night before playing on the road against Carson-Newman next Saturday. On Feb. 26 they will host Lees-McRae in a game that was rescheduled from January 2 due to bad weather and then they will close out the regular season against Newberry on March 1. They will play in the first round of the Food Lion-SAC Tournament sometime in the following week.-LMU- For additional
