Wingate Defeats Lincoln Memorial 78-50 In SAC Action Wednesday Night
 
WINGATE, NC -- The Wingate University women’s basketball team defeated Lincoln Memorial University 78-50 in a South Atlantic Conference game in Cuddy Arena on the Wingate campus Wednesday. Wingate improves to 15-5 overall and 7-2 in the SAC. (Box score)
 
The Bulldogs will travel to Catawba College on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip-off. SAC newcomer Lincoln Memorial falls to 10-10 overall and 2-7 in the SAC and will be in action Saturday as well. The Railsplitters travel to Greeneville, Tenn. to take on Tusculum College for a 2 p.m. start.
 
Wingate senior guard Tanetra Barrett (Marshville, N.C.) led all scorers with 17 points. Barrett added four rebounds, three steals, three assists and one blocked shot. Bulldog sophomore point guard Anna Atkinson (Marion, N.C.) had 10 points, five boards and a team-high four steals. Wingate senior forward Kerri Metzker (Charlotte, N.C.) contributed 11 points on five-of-eight shooting from the floor. Bulldog senior Emily Paffrath (Bakersville, N.C.) had 12 points and team-highs in rebounds (seven) and blocked shots (two).
 
Lincoln Memorial freshman forward Andi Winney (Yorktown, Ind.) topped the Railsplitter team charts with 11 points and nine rebounds. LMU senior guard Betsy Bowser (Galveston, Ind.) added 10 points and four rebounds for the visitors. Railsplitter senior guard Madeline Richards (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) scored nine points.
 
Wingate held a 36-25 advantage over Lincoln Memorial at the break. Barrett led the first half scoring for Wingate with 11 points. Atkinson had a team-high four first half rebounds.
 
Richards led the LMU offense with seven first-half points. Bowser had a team-high three boards for the Railsplitter in the first 20 minutes.
 
Wingate head coach Johnny Jacumin (583 wins) and Lincoln Memorial head coach Roger Vannoy (459 wins) have a combined 1,082 career wins following tonight’s contest. The two coaches rank fourth and 12th, respectively on the NCAA Division II winningest active coaches ­ total victories chart (entering the season).
