LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release January 19, 2008 Lincoln Memorial Women’s Basketball Outlasts Late Lenoir-Rhyne Run To Win, 60-59 Hickory, NC – The Lincoln Memorial University Women’s Basketball Team (8-7, 1-4) went down to the wire to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne College (10-6, 2-3), 60-59, Saturday night at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium in a South Atlantic Conference game. (Box score) Lincoln Memorial was led by Shawna Nicols (Milwaukee, Wisc.), who scored a game-high 17 points while Andi Winney (Yorktown, Ind.), tallied the game’s only double-double (10 points and 13 rebounds). Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore guard Amber Holt (Charlotte, N.C.) finished with a team-high 16 points and five rebounds and was the only Bear to score in double figures. After leading for the majority of the game, the Lady Railsplitters found themselves in a 54-54 tie with the Bears with 2:06 remaining in the contest. LMU reeled off five straight points before Holt hit a three- point basket to cut the lead to two at 59-57. Nichols went one-for-two on the line with 24 seconds left to go to put Lincoln Memorial up by three (60-57). Bear sophomore guard Meredith Webster (High Point, N.C.) then hit two free throws with three seconds remaining to draw L-R within one. After two missed free throws by LMU, Lenoir-Rhyne was unable to get off a final shot in an attempt to win the game. Lenoir-Rhyne will play its next three games on the road, beginning with a trip to Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, Tenn., on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 6:00 p.m. Lincoln Memorial will face Catawba in Salisbury, N.C., on Jan. 23 at 6:00 p.m. -LMU- For additional
