LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release January 13, 2007 Lady Railsplitters Lose Nail-biter With Newberry NEWBERRY, SC – The Lady Railsplitter basketball team fell to 1-4 in South Atlantic Conference play and 8-7 overall with Saturday night’s 53-47 loss to Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina. (Box score) Lincoln Memorial and Newberry battled toe-to-toe in Saturday’s fifth league game of the year with the score changing hands on six occasions. Newberry took a four point lead into the intermission, leading 30-26 at the half. Lincoln Memorial refused to go down without a fight but couldn’t get over the hump in the second half to take the lead. The Lady Splitters trailed the entire final twenty minutes of play. Still, in spite of their deficit, the Lady Railsplitters took the game down to the wire with Newberry before falling by the final margin of 53-47. Newberry’s Ashley Marine came off the bench to lead all scorers with 17 points, while Lincoln Memorial freshman Andi Winney (Yorktown, IN) took top honors for the Lady Railsplitters with 14 points and teammate Madeline Richards (Floyds Knobs, IN) added another 11. LMU’s Latoya Johnson (Miami, FL) led all rebounders with nine boards. This week the Lady Railsplitters will be back at home in the Tex Turner Arena for two consecutive South Atlantic Conference games. On Wednesday night the LMU women play host to host Lenoir-Rhyne College (8-7, 2-3) at 6:00 p.m., while Saturday night’s match-up will feature Lincoln Memorial taking on Catawba College (13-3, 3-1). -LMU- For additional
