Lady Railsplitters Survive Late Surge From Presbyterian For First South Atlantic Conference Victory

CLINTON, SC – Although the Lady Blue Hose made numerous runs in the second half, the Lincoln Memorial University women’s basketball team weathered the storms and emerged 74-68 winners over Presbyterian College Wednesday night to earn their first conference win of the season. (Box score)

The Lady Railsplitters led by 11 points with eighteen minutes to go in the game only to see the Lady Blue Hose whittle away at the deficit and take the lead midway through the second half.  Eventually, LMU extended the lead again to nine points and survived several more Presbyterian runs before coming away with the six point win to improve to 1-3 in league play and 8-6 overall.

Five Lady Railsplitter players scored double figures in LMU’s first conference win of the season.  Senior Wiseman Alcema (West Palm Beach, FL) had possibly her best game since joining the team a year ago.  Alcema led Lincoln Memorial University in scoring with 14 points on four of seven shooting from the field, while teammate Betsy Bowser (Galveston, IN) finished closely behind with 13 points.  LMU’s Madeline Richards (Floyds Knobs, IN) added 12 points in Wednesday’s win, while freshman Andi Winney (Yorktown, IN) had 11 and junior Sidney Johnson (Cincinnati, OH) contributed another 10.

This Saturday the Lady Railsplitters travel to Newberry, South Carolina, for a date with the Lady Indians of Newberry College.  Newberry enters their first conference game of the year with LMU at 2-2 in league play and boasting an overall record of 13-2 on the year.  Saturday’s tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.  You can watch the game live online at www.cstv.com/ncaa/divii.  Click on the "This Week" link and then click on the game link to watch the broadcast.
