LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release January 6, 2007 Lady Splitters Drop Third Straight To Fall To 0-2 In South Atlantic Conference
HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University women’s basketball team fell to 7-5 overall and 0-2 in the South Atlantic Conference with Saturday night’s 61-49 loss to the Lady Bulldogs of Wingate University. (Box score) Having lost to Carson-Newman in the conference opener on Wednesday night, and to the University of North Carolina-Central prior to that, the loss to Wingate puts the LMU women on a three-game losing streak after starting off the year at 7-2 going into the Christmas break. Poor rebounding in the second half and low shooting percentage for the game were the contributing factors in Saturday evening’s loss to Wingate. The Lady Splitters hit only 32.7% of their shots from the floor and allowed Wingate to take a commanding lead on the glass in the second half on the way to their fifth loss of the year. LMU point-guard Betsy Bowser (Galveston, IN) led all scorers with 18 points, while Wingate’s Tanetra Barrett and Kerri Metzker each made double figures with 15 points and 14 points respectively. Lincoln Memorial falls to 7-5 overall and 0-2 in league play, while the Lady Bulldogs improve to 2-0 in the conference and 10-3 overall to go along with their #20 national ranking. The LMU women will continue their search for their first South Atlantic Conference win on Monday night when they play host to the Lady Pioneers of Tusculum College at 6:00 p.m. in the Tex Turner Arena. -LMU- For additional
