LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release December 1, 2007 LMU Falls To Carson-Newman In Overtime
HARROGATE, TN – The visiting Carson-Newman Eagles used a 7-3 run late in regulation to force overtime and pull out the 92-87 win over Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. It was the conference opener for both teams. (Box score) The game was close in the first half until the Railsplitters went on a 9-0 run sparked by a jumper from Wadner Joseph that gave LMU the 19-10 lead. Carson-Newman kept chipping away and managed to grab a one point on three occasions but LMU would answer with a basket of their own and eventually go into the half with a 48-46 lead. The second half saw the Eagles go up by nine before LMU came back to take a five point 79-74 leas with 1:37 to go. Over the last minute and a half Carson-Newman would outscore LMU 6-1 to tie the game with an Andy Tipton lay-up with 1.9 second to go and send it to overtime. Carson-Newman (3-0, 1-0 SAC) would score seven unanswered points to start the extra period and never look back as they held on for the 92-87 victory. The Eagles were led by Zach Hyatte off the bench with 21 points. Darren Williams also had 16 for Carson-Newman. LMU (2-4, 0-1 SAC) was led by Joseph’s game-high 28 points. Beau Brown added in 15 points and Terry Delaney came off the bench for a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Emmanuel Njomo also had 11 points. The Railsplitters will next hit the hardwood on Dec. 6 when they host North Greenville. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. -LMU- For additional
