LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release November 11, 2007 SIU Defensive Pressure Too Much For LMU CARBONDALE, IL - Strong defensive pressure that forced 33 turnovers helped propel the 23rd ranked Salukis of Southern Illinois to the 97-51 win over LMU in exhibition action on Sunday. (Box score) Both teams had trouble scoring early on as the first basket for either team did not come until the 16:12 mark. A combination of eleven turnovers and early foul trouble for the Salukis helped the Railsplitter cause and enabled them to keep it close as LMU only trailed at the half 43-25. With some fresh legs for their starters in the second half SIU was able to turn up their defensive pressure and force the Railsplitters into 19 second-half turnovers and a shooting percentage of 37 percent. For the game, LMU shot 30 percent from the field, 18 percent from behind the arc and 77 percent from the charity stripe. LMU was led by Terry Delaney and Beau Brown with 15 points apiece. Brown and Ronnie Jones led the team on the boards with six rebounds each. Matt Shaw led the Salukis in scoring with 19 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Four other SIU players also scored in double figures. Lincoln Memorial will open the regular season on Saturday when they travel play Georgia College and State University in the opening round of the Tusculum Tip-Off Classic in Greeneville, TN. -LMU- For additional
