LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release January 2, 2008 Turnovers & Rebounding Doom Railsplitters Against North Georgia HARROGATE, TN – Twenty-six turnovers and 15 North Georgia offensive rebounds made for an 80-73 overtime loss for the Railsplitters Tuesday night in Lincoln Memorial University’s Tex Turner Arena. (Box score) After spotting the Saints a 10-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game, LMU came storming back to take their first lead with only 4:54 remaining in the first half of play. Although Lincoln Memorial eventually went to the locker room trailing by six points (29-23), the Railsplitters came out in the second half and took the lead at the 18:24 mark at 31-30. LMU held the lead until midway through the half when NGC&U tied the game at 46-46 with 10:07 to play. Throughout the final ten minutes of regulation, both teams traded the lead back and forth right down the final seconds of regulation when Railsplitter freshman Ryan Whitaker (Pineville, KY) hit a twelve foot jump shot from the baseline to send the game into overtime. As fate would have it that was as close as the Railsplitters would get, as North Georgia opened up a nine point lead in overtime before emerging with the 80-73 win. North Georgia’s Andre Morgan led all scorers with 28 points, while teammate Nick Pope added 15 as the only two Saint players in double figures. Lincoln Memorial was paced by Whitaker who had 21 points on the night, while sophomore Beau Brown (Athens, TN) chipped in 20 and junior Terry Delaney (Murfreesboro, TN) had 16. LMU’s Ronnie Jones (Atlanta, Georgia) shared top rebounding honors with North Georgia’s Andrew Bennett, each pulling 10 boards for the game. The loss drops the Railsplitters to 4-7 overall as they now switch gears for the upcoming South Atlantic Conference schedule. This Saturday the Railsplitters travel to Wingate, North Carolina to take on the Bulldogs of Wingate University in their second conference test of the year. The Railsplitters will enter the game with the Bulldogs at 0-1 in league play, having lost to Carson-Newman College on December 1 in overtime 92-87.
