Railsplitter Baseball Continues To Add To Recruiting Class

 

HARROGATE, TN – Head Baseball Coach Jeff Sziksai announced today the addition of seven more student athletes that will be joining the Railsplitter baseball program this fall.  On the addition of the newest members his recruiting class Sziksai commented, “I am very pleased with where we are with this group.  We have targeted areas that need improvement, and have added talented players in those areas.  I am looking forward to getting everyone on the field together this fall.”

Nick Langley comes to LMU from Walters State Community College in Morristown, TN.  This season for Coach Ken Campbell, the 5’10”, 190lb Langley posted a .382 batting average to go along with 2 home runs while anchoring the second base position.  In addition, he was instrumental in helping to lead the Senators back to the Junior College World Series for the third time in the last four years.  “Nick is a good hitter that will provide another quality left-handed bat to our line-up.  Coming from an outstanding junior college program, he knows what it takes to win at a high level and that is important.  Finally, Nick is a great kid who will represent LMU is a first class manner” added Sziksai.  Nick is the son of Jimmy and Deborah Langley and plans on majoring in Business while at LMU.

Chris Armstrong joins the Railsplitter baseball program after a successful career as a shortstop and pitcher at Gibbs High School in Knoxville, TN.  This season for Coach Geoff Davis, the 6’1, 160 lb Armstrong set a school record for stolen bases (29), hit nine home runs with four triples while batting over .400.  On the mound, he was his team’s closer.  For his efforts, Armstrong was named All-District, All-Prep Extra second team, and All-KIL first team.  On the signing of Armstrong Sziksai added, “Chris is a very good athlete who is extremely versatile.  He runs well, has good bat speed, and has a live arm.  Once he makes a commitment to the weight room, he will be a very good college player.”  Chris is the son of Mike and Kim Armstrong of Corryton, TN.

Philip Nungesser comes to LMU from Brevard Community College in Cocoa, FL.  This season for Head Coach Ernie Rosseau, the 5’10”. 205 lb Nungessar posted a 1-1 record and a 5.50ERA in 11 appearances in a closer/ late relief role for the Titans.  He also saw time behind the plate as a catcher for BCC.  On Nungesser’s signing Coach Sziksai commented, “Philip will help provide much needed depth to our pitching staff.  He is a strong kid with a good arm and good stuff.  However, I think Philip’s best days are ahead of him and I am looking forward to getting him on campus as I think he will get better very quickly.”  Philip is the son of Dan and Lynne Nungesser and plans on majoring in Criminal Justice while at LMU.

Gelson Perez joins the LMU baseball program from the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School, and will join fellow PRBAHS alumnus and current Railsplitter Ralph Rosas this fall.  Head Coach Jeff Sziksai commented, “Gelson is a skilled defender and a very good athlete.  If he continues to get stronger offensively, he has a chance to help our program right away.  However, not only is he an excellent baseball player, he is also an honor roll student.  I am pleased with the addition of Gelson to our program.”  Perez’s high school coach and MLB scout, Jose Centeno, added, “Gelson is a very coachable player.  He has very good hands and is a solid line drive hitter.  He will be a great addition to Lincoln Memorial.” Perez is the son of Mirabel Guadalupe and Hiram Perez, and is planning on majoring in Physical Therapy.

Cody Church comes to LMU by way of Seymour High School and Roane State Community College in Harriman, TN.  As a senior outfielder at Seymour, Church posted a state leading .546 batting average to go along with 5 home runs.  For his efforts, he was named first team All-District, All-Region, All-Prep Extra, TBCA All-State, and TSWA All-State.  In addition to being an accomplished athlete, Church is also an outstanding student achieving Dean’s List status at Roane St.  On the addition of Cody Church, Sziksai said, “Cody is another versatile kid that can play several positions.  As he continues to develop physically, Cody should blossom into a very good player at the college level.”  Cody is the son of Jeff and Martha Church and is planning on majoring in Business while at LMU.

 

Finally, twin brothers Brad and Nick Pressley will join the LMU Baseball program from Powell High School in Powell, TN.  This year for Coach Jeff Inman, Brad posted a .410 batting average with 2 home runs while playing the shortstop position, and on the mound posted a 2.17 ERA in 58 innings.  For his efforts, he was named to the All-District team the past two seasons.  Brother Nick posted very good numbers as well putting up a .406 batting average, and a .400 average over the past two seasons while handling the catching duties for Powell.  On the addition of Brad and Nick Pressley Sziksai said, “Brad and Nick are outstanding additions to our program.  They are hard-working, blue collar kids that will fit well with our philosophy here. They are good athletes, and as they continue to learn and improve their skills, they will be important pieces to our program.”  Nick and Brad are the sons of Larry and Angela Pressley.
