Red Sox Draft LMU Signee Kenneth Roque In 10th Round

The LMU baseball team’s recruiting class took a hit this past week when Kenneth Roque, a short stop from Cidra, Puerto Rico was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 10th Round of the 2007 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.  Kenneth signed with LMU this past fall, and will forgo his college career to play professional baseball.

LMU Head Baseball Coach Jeff Sziksai had this to say about Roque being drafted, “all of us in the LMU Baseball family are extremely happy for Kenneth.  We wish him all the best in his baseball career.  It has been a dream of his to play pro ball, and we are thrilled that he is getting this opportunity.”

Although the Splitter baseball team will miss Roque, Sziksai remains optimistic.  “While Kenneth is a great player, and we will miss him not being in our lineup, there are a lot of positives we can take from this situation.  First, it says a lot about our recruiting efforts, in particular, Coach Schmalz, that we were able to sign a 10th rounder.  Second, the situation opened the door for us to pursue and sign several other top notch players on our list to take Kenneth’s spot.”  Roque has already reported to the Red Sox organization and will begin his professional career immediately.
