Sports Release April 6, 2008 Mars Hill Takes Series While LMU’s Hope Of Making SAC Tournament Begins To Fade HARROGATE, TN – After losing the opening game of the series with Mars Hill College on Saturday 7-6, the Railsplitters split with the Lions on Sunday, winning the continuation game from Saturday 5-4, and losing the third and final game of the series 15-8.
The wins put the Lions at 19-17 overall and 3-4 in the South Atlantic Conference race. The mark is good enough for 5th place in the league standings heading into the final week of league play. The Railsplitters are now 25-19-1 overall and 5-12 in the South Atlantic Conference, putting them in eighth place with only Newberry remaining on the SAC schedule.
The SAC tournament distributes bids to only the top six teams in the conference and the tournament will be played April 17-20 in Hickory, North Carolina. The Railsplitters must sweep next weekend’s road series with Newberry College and then receive some help from other schools in the South Atlantic Conference if they are to have any chance of making this year’s tournament.
The Lions will travel to cross-state rival Catawba College next weekend for their SAC regular season finale against the Indians. Mars Hill and Catawba will play and three-game series that is set to get underway Friday evening at 7:30 under the lights in Salisbury, North Carolina. MHC needs to win only one of the three games to earn a spot in this year’s conference tournament. -LMU- For additional
