HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball team may be losing nine seniors following the 2007 season to graduation, but the Railsplitter class of 2008 looks to be a strong one.

On Wednesday afternoon, the conference office in Rock Hill, South Carolina announced that Lincoln Memorial juniors TeWayne Willis (Hazard, KY), Derek Treece (Powell, TN) and Casey Sedley (Miami, FL) had all been named to the All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team for their efforts on the diamond this year.

In only his first season with Lincoln Memorial, Willis has been an immediate impact on the Railsplitter baseball program, stealing a school record 42 bases, boasting a .382 batting average (3rd on the team) and turning in a team-best 55 runs scored.  Willis also ranks 9th in Division II baseball in stolen bases per game and 2nd in total stolen bases for season.  Willis also earned the all-conference honor for his efforts in the outfield where he posted a .972 fielding percentage.

Treece is expected to finish with the triple-crown for Lincoln Memorial University this year.  The 5’10” product of Powell High School leads the Railsplitters at the plate with a .414 batting average, has a team-best 14 homeruns and has recorded 59 runs batted in this year, which is also tops on the Railsplitter squad.  As a second baseman, Treece finished behind Tusculum’s Maikol Gonzalez who was named SAC Player of the Year at the middle infield position.

Casey Sedley was an added surprise to the Railsplitter hitting line-up this year.  Recruited as a pitcher, early in the season LMU Head Coach Jeff Sziksai learned that Sedley possessed some skills at the plate and gave the newcomer an opportunity to swing the bat.  His reward was being named to the All-SAC Second Team as a designated hitter.  Sedley hit .323 from the DH position this season while helping the Railsplitters achieve a 31-20 mark following Wednesday night’s game with the University of Tennessee.

Lincoln Memorial has one game remaining on the 2007 schedule against Carson-Newman College.  The Railsplitters and the Eagles are slated for a nine inning non-conference game on April 26 at home on the Lamar Hennon Field.
