Sports Release April 1, 2007 Mars Hill Takes Series From LMU MARS HILL, NC - Mars Hill defeated Lincoln Memorial University Sunday afternoon at Henderson Field 10-5 after a 90-minute rain delay. The Lions are now 15-28 overall and 6-14 in the SAC. LMU fell to 25-17 overall and 6-11 in the league. LMU got on the board first in the third inning when Dustin Rowland (Eagle River, AK) hit a two-run homer to right field. The Lions answered by scoring four runs in the bottom half of the third frame. The inning was highlighted by a two-RBI single by Jonathan Helsabeck (Rural Hall, NC). MHC added a pair of runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-2 lead after Matt Carter (Sunrise, FL) singled through the middle to drive in Danny Miller (Gaithersburg, MD) and Marc Wassum (Winter Park, FL). In the fifth inning, Miller hit a line drive into left field to score James Dean (Lake Butler, FL) and Austin Boehme (Winston-Salem, NC) to give the Lions a six-run (8-2) advantage. LMU trimmed the Lions’ lead to 8-5 in the seventh inning on three hits and one Lion error. Mike Richardson (Murfreesboro, TN) hit a two-RBI double to right-center in the inning. MHC then went up 10-5 in the bottom half of the seventh inning when Dean singled down the right field line to plate Dustin Kerley (Taylorsville, NC) and then Boehme later scored on a fielder’s choice. That would end the scoring in the game. Miller, Wassum and Dean each had three hits in the win. Miller added three RBI while Wassum had two RBI. All three players scored twice. Justin Hall (Martinsville, VA) threw seven innings to pick up the win (3-3) on the mound. Tommy Casto (Deerfield Beach, FL) led LMU at the plate going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Rowland was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer. Casey Sedley (Miami, FL) took the loss (3-3) for LMU on the mound. -LMU- For additional
