OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release March 4, 2007 Railsplitters Swept In Three-Game Series By Wingate
WINGATE, NC – The Bulldogs of Wingate University came back to win all three games this weekend when they hosted the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference baseball action.
In Saturday afternoon’s first game, Wingate came from behind once during the scheduled nine innings and again in the bottom of the tenth to come away with an 11-10 victory over the Railsplitters. The Bulldogs managed their second comeback in the final game of the afternoon, using nine innings in a scheduled seven inning game to hand the Railsplitters a 3-2 loss to take a 2-0 lead in the series. LMU’s Joe Workman (Dayton, KY) took the loss in game one while Zach Gray (Columbia, TN) got the loss in the nightcap.
On Sunday afternoon, the Railsplitters took a 7-6 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning, only to see the Bulldogs generate their third come-from-behind effort of the weekend to steal an 8-7 win to sweep the series. LMU’s Brett Vaughn (Hayesville, NC) who entered the game in the fifth inning got the loss.
Now 13-7 overall and 4-4 in the South Atlantic Conference, the Railsplitters will be in action this week in non-conference play when they host North Greenville University at home Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in a double-header. Next weekend the Railsplitters hit the road again in league play when they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne College. -LMU- For additional
