Railsplitters Pick Up Win & Tie Against North Greenville

HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball team improved to 14-9-1 on Monday afternoon when it traveled to Tigerville, South Carolina and defeated North Greenville University 5-2 and tied 8-8.

Although the Railsplitters managed only seven hits in the first game, pitching and fielding proved to be a big factor to the win.  North Greenville hit the ball well, generating 12 hits for the game but left 10 base runners stranded and LMU pitchers Scott Erland (Pegram, TN) and Ray Burchell (Corryton, TN) walked only two batters over seven innings.

In the second game, Lincoln Memorial and North Greenville went toe-to-toe through the scheduled seven innings and completed the eighth before the game was called due to darkness.  With no lights at the NGU field, both teams were forced to settle for an 8-8 decision, thus ending the double header with LMU picking up the only win of the day.

Scott Erland picked up the win in the first game and improved his personal record to 3-0 while the Railsplitters move to 14-9-1 on the year.  Lincoln Memorial is scheduled for another non-conference double header on Wednesday when the Railsplitters will travel to Bristol, Virginia to take on Virginia Intermont College weather permitting.  Wednesday’s action is set to get underway at 1:00 p.m.
