OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release March 27, 2007 Railsplitters Cruise Past Berea
HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitter baseball team improved to 24-15 Tuesday afternoon by sweeping the Mountaineers of Berea College in a double-header 14-4 and 8-4.
Lincoln Memorial made quick work of Berea in the first game of the afternoon, by run-ruling the Mountaineers in five innings of work 14-4. Junior pitcher Curtis Wills (Folsom, CA) picked up the win for the Railsplitters while second baseball Derek Treece (Powell, TN) crushed his twelfth homerun of the year and teammate Casey Sedley (Miami, FL) hit his fourth.
Although senior Sergio Baez (Miami, FL) got the start in game-two, teammate Scott Erland also saw time on the mound and Reed Neff (Brentwood, TN) picked up his the win. Neff Pitched the final 1.2 innings of work and gave up no damage, allowing the Railsplitters to break a 4-4 tie at the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning when Baez picked up an RBI single through the right side. LMU eventually tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning for the final 8-4 margin.
This weekend the Railsplitters travel to Mars Hill, North Carolina where they will take on Mars Hill College in a three game conference series. With last weekend’s three losses to Catawba College, the Railsplitters will be looking to get back on the winning track in the South Atlantic Conference when they face the Lions. -LMU- For additional
