OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release March 19, 2007 LMU’s Willis Named SAC Baseball Player Of The Week
A 5’9” product of Perry County Central High School and Roane State Community College, Willis hit .700 last week while helping the Railsplitters achieve a mark of 5-2 for the week. Willis also accumulated 14 hits, 10 RBI and 3 doubles while stealing 9-10 bases to help the Railsplitter cause. As of Monday morning, Willis ranks second on the Railsplitter squad this season in hitting percentage (.396) among players with more than 90 at bats, fourth in hits (37), second in doubles (7) and is tied for third on the team in RBI (24). In addition, he is 24-27 in stolen bases this year, ranking him third all-time for a single season behind former Railsplitter Chris Kline who stole 39 in 1997 and 32 in 1996. The Railsplitters are now 21-11 on the year and will play Caldwell College at home Wednesday in a double-header before resuming the South Atlantic Conference schedule at home this weekend against Catawba College. -LMU- For additional
