Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball
Defeats Lincoln Memorial, 14-7, To Take The Series
HICKORY, NC -
The Lenoir-Rhyne College Baseball Team (24-4, 6-2) took the weekend
series from Lincoln Memorial University (16-9, 5-6), 14-7, Sunday
afternoon at Bears Field in a South Atlantic Conference contest.
The two squads split a doubleheader on Saturday.
With the victory, Lenoir-Rhyne equaled last year's win total (the
Bears went 24-27 in 2006) and moved into second place in the SAC
standings.
L-R took control early in the contest, leading 11-2 after three
innings.
Senior shortstop Taylor MacCurdy connected on a two-run triple in
the second inning and finished with three runs scored and three hits
while junior outfielder Mark Drucker and senior outfielder Jordan
Ackley added three RBI apiece.
LMU tried to rally with three runs in the top of the fifth inning
but the L-R countered with three of their own in the bottom of the
sixth highlighted by senior second baseman Derek Pugh's two-run
single.
Tommy Casto (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) and Casey Sedley (Miami, Fla.)
had two hits and two runs batted in each for Lincoln Memorial.
Freshman Chris Henderson improved to 3-0 with the win. Henderson
limited the Railsplitters to one run in 4.1 innings of work while
Kyle Wakefield (Kalamazoo, Mich.) suffered the loss for Lincoln
Memorial. Wakefield is now 3-2 for the season.
