Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Defeats Lincoln Memorial, 14-7, To Take The Series

HICKORY, NC - The Lenoir-Rhyne College Baseball Team (24-4, 6-2) took the weekend series from Lincoln Memorial University (16-9, 5-6), 14-7, Sunday afternoon at Bears Field in a South Atlantic Conference contest.  The two squads split a doubleheader on Saturday.

With the victory, Lenoir-Rhyne equaled last year's win total (the Bears went 24-27 in 2006) and moved into second place in the SAC standings.

L-R took control early in the contest, leading 11-2 after three innings.

Senior shortstop Taylor MacCurdy connected on a two-run triple in the second inning and finished with three runs scored and three hits while junior outfielder Mark Drucker and senior outfielder Jordan Ackley added three RBI apiece.

LMU tried to rally with three runs in the top of the fifth inning but the L-R countered with three of their own in the bottom of the sixth highlighted by senior second baseman Derek Pugh's two-run single.

Tommy Casto (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) and Casey Sedley (Miami, Fla.) had two hits and two runs batted in each for Lincoln Memorial.

Freshman Chris Henderson improved to 3-0 with the win. Henderson limited the Railsplitters to one run in 4.1 innings of work while Kyle Wakefield (Kalamazoo, Mich.) suffered the loss for Lincoln Memorial. Wakefield is now 3-2 for the season.
