BC Baseball Drops Double-Header To Lincoln Memorial On Saturday

Brevard, N.C. -- The Brevard College men's baseball team hosted their first weekend series with a South Atlantic Conference foe on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial in both games of a double-header, 5-3 and 2-1.

The third game of the three-game series will be tomorrow afternoon with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m. at Gil Coan Field on the campus of Brevard College.

Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 5, Brevard 3

In the opening game, Lincoln Memorial used a three-run third and added two runs in the final two innings of play to sneak away with a 5-3 win over the Tornados.

Lincoln Memorial jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring three-runs on four hits in the top of the third off of BC starter Seth Laughter, who had cruised through the first two innings.

However, the Tornados bounced back to tie the score at 3-3, pushing across one run in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.

In the fourth, Brevard got on the board as senior Chris White doubled to left field to score Seth Corliss from third, who had reached on a double earlier in the inning.

In the fifth, the Tornados cut the LMU lead to one at 3-2, as third-baseman Spencer Linn scored on a fielding error by the Railsplitters.

The Tornados knotted the score up at 3-3 in the top of the seventh, when Adam Arrowood, who led off the inning with a single to center field, scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior Luke Lovelace.

However, the Railsplitters scored one in both the top of the eighth and the ninth innings to come away with a 5-3 win over the Tornados.

The Tornados' Laughter (0-2) was saddled with the loss, as he went 8.2 innings giving up five runs on nine hits, while striking seven LMU hitters.

LMU's Brent Vaughn came away with the win, as he allowed only two runs on four hits over the first 4.2 innings of play.

At the plate, the Tornados were led by White, who was 2-4 with a double and an RBI, and Corliss, who was 2-4 with a double and one run scored. Second-baseman Adam Arrowood was 2-3 with a run scored.

For the Railsplitters at the plate, Storm Kaufman was 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while John Couch was 1-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 2, Brevard 1 (7)

In game two of the double-header, the Railsplitters scored one in both of the first two innings of play, which proved to be enough to score the 2-1 win.

BC hurler Spencer Linn pitched well in game two for the Tornados, as he allowed two runs on only four hits while going all seven innings.

However, the Railsplitters were able to hold the Tornados scoreless until the final inning of play as Luke Lovelace singled to score Mike Jones from third with two outs, before LMU relief pitcher Ray Burchell settled down to get Brice Warner to fly out to end the game.

Linn falls to 1-2 on the season with the loss.

The Tornados' Lovelace was 2-4 with an RBI, while shortstop Mitch Hefner was 2-3 with a run scored.

For the Railsplitters Pabon was 1-3 with an RBI, while Kaufman was 1-3 with a run scored.
