Zach Gray

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Lincoln Memorial University shortstop Tommy Casto (Deerfield Beach, FL) and starting pitcher Zach Gray (Columbia, TN) have been named the South Atlantic Conference’s Player and Pitcher of the Week, announced by league officials on Monday afternoon.

Casto batted .515 (17-of-33) as the Railsplitters enjoyed a 6-2 record for the week, including taking two-of-three games from SAC opponent Presbyterian.  The junior tallied six multi-hit games last week, driving in four runs and swiping five bases.  A junior on the Railsplitter squad, Casto is batting .456 on the season and is tied for the team lead in hits with 26.

Gray went 2-0 last week, picking up conference victories over Tusculum and Presbyterian.  The senior hurler pitched a complete-game against the Pioneers, giving up only one earned run while striking out seven batters.  Gray went the distance in his next start against Presbyterian, allowing again only one earned run and striking out eight batters.  The second year starter for LMU is tied for the team lead in victories (3) and leads the staff with three complete games.

The SAC Player and Pitcher of the Week are voted on by the league’s nine sports information directors.
