OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release February 25, 2007 Railsplitters Crush Presbyterian To Take Series Split HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball team captured its second South Atlantic Conference series on Sunday afternoon by defeating the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College 20-6 to remain tied for second place in the South Atlantic Conference race. While it was Presbyterian College that got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first with a 2-0 lead, the Railsplitters came roaring back in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 advantage and continued for the remainder of the game to add to what was nothing shy of an awesome team performance at the plate. LMU tallied 22 hits on the afternoon en route to the Railsplitters' eleventh win overall and their fourth South Atlantic Conference victory this season. While there were many solid performances at the plate, junior shortstop Tommy Casto (Deerfield Beach, FL) had probably the most impressive day, going four for six at the with one RBI. Railsplitter junior Derek Treece (Powell, TN) continued to pound the ball as well, recording his seventh homerun of the season while going three for five on the day with four runs batted in. LMU’s Bryon Izzo (Miramar, FL) was also three for five on the afternoon with one RBI. Sunday’s victory went to Casey Sedley (Miami, FL) who improves to 2-1 on the year. Sedley tossed the first six innings, allowing only seven Blue Hose hits, three runs and two earned runs while walking three batters and striking out two. In the seventh, Scott Erland (Pegram, TN) took over for the Railsplitters, pitching one inning with no damage. In the eighth, Curtis Wills (Folsom, CA) allow one Presbyterian hit and one run before teammate Reed Neff (Brentwood, TN) entered in the ninth to shut the door. Neff gave up two hits and two runs while recording one strikeout. Presbyterian’s Kyle Craven led the Blue Hose attack at the plate by going three for five on the afternoon with one RBI. Teammate Eric Tatum got credit for the loss. Tatum fell to 2-2 on the year, lasting only 1.1 innings and allowing five hits, seven runs and five earned runs with two walks. Zach Snipes pitched the next two innings, giving up four hits, four runs and four earned runs, with one walk and a strikeout. Then, Ross Ellis entered the game and was unable to record an out before giving up four hits, four runs and four earned runs, with a walk as well. Somewhere midway through the game, Parker Suit entered in relief for the Blue Hose and went the next 3.2 innings with six hits, three runs and two earned runs while walking two batters and striking out one. Presbyterian’s Joe Hammond pitched the eighth, allowing two hits and two runs but neither was earned. Presbyterian falls to 9-11 overall and 2-4 in the South Atlantic Conference while the Railsplitters move to 11-4 on the year and 4-1 in league play to remained tied for second place. This Wednesday LMU will travel to Tigerville, South Carolina to take on North Greenville University in a double header. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m. on the NGU campus. -LMU- For additional
