Railsplitters Split With Presbyterian

HARROGATE, TN – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball team split a double-header with Presbyterian College on Saturday afternoon, losing 10-9 in the first game before winning game-two 7-2.

The Blue Hose pounded out 20 hits in the first game with Lincoln Memorial and forced the Railsplitters to use three different pitchers.  Senior Joe Workman (Dayton, KY) suffered his first loss of the year, giving up 11 hits, five runs and five earned runs with one walk and four strikeouts before giving way to teammate Kyle Wakefield (Kalamazoo, MI).  Wakefield pitched the next 2.3 innings of work giving up five more Blue Hose hits and allowing four runs, two of which were earned.  In the process, Wakefield waked two Presbyterian batters and struck out one.  Logan Brady (Morristown, TN) closed the game for the Railsplitters.  Brady pitched the final two innings, allowing four hits, one run and one earned run with two walks.

At the plate, Casey Sedley (Miami, FL) was three for four on game with one run batted in, while Tommy Casto (Deerfield Beach, FL) was three for six, also knocking in a run to lead the Railsplitters.

Despite a late game charge that saw LMU cut a 10-2 deficit into a 10-9 game in the bottom of the ninth inning, Presbyterian held on to take game-one from the Railsplitters to capture only their second conference win of the season.

In the second and final game of the afternoon the Railsplitters jumped on top early and never looked back, coming away with a 7-2 win over the Blue Hose to split the double-header at a game apiece.  No statistics were available for the game due to technical problems however, Lincoln Memorial’s Zach Gray (Columbia, TN) picked up the win to improve to 3-1 on the year.

Weather permitting the Railsplitters and the Blue Hose are scheduled to play the third and final game of the series Sunday afternoon at 1:00 o’clock on the Lamar Hennon Field.  Heavy rain is forecast for the tri-state area and the weather will dictate what time or if the game will be played.
