HARROGATE, TN – With the beginning of the 2008 baseball season only a day away, the announcement came Thursday morning that four Lincoln Memorial University baseball players had been named to the Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference Baseball First and Second Teams.

Named to the first team was Railsplitter junior pitcher/designated hitter Casey Sedley (Miami, FL).  Sedley earned Second Team All-South Atlantic Conference honors for his efforts during the 2007 season and was named to the 2008 preseason first team for his efforts at the plate.  The 6’4” junior hit .323 a year ago, recording nine doubles, five homeruns and 27 RBI while helping the Railsplitters achieve a 31-20 record.

Named to the 2008 Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team were senior infielder Derek Treece (Powell, TN), senior outfielder TeWayne Willis (Hazard, KY) and junior outfielder Bryon Izzo (Miramar, FL)

Treece hit in the cleanup spot a year ago for the Railsplitters and earned Second Team All-SAC honors by hitting .414 at the plate, recording 11 doubles, 14 homeruns and 59 RBI, all team-best statistics.

In his first season in a Railsplitter uniform, Willis set a new school record for stolen bases, stealing 42 in 51 games while hitting in the leadoff position and batting .382 with 10 doubles, one triple and one homerun with 38 runs batted in.

Izzo is the newcomer to the Railsplitter all-conference honors.  Last season as a sophomore, Izzo batted .344 with 10 doubles and one triple while knocking eight homeruns and 44 runs batted in.

On Friday the Railsplitters travel to Aiken, South Carolina to open the 2008 schedule in their traditional three-game series with the University of South Carolina-Aiken.  The Railsplitters will play a single game on Friday that is set to get underway at 4:00 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday’s games will see a 1:00 o’clock first pitch.
