Buffaloes Step on Railsplitters

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN – The Railsplitters were held to only four hits in Thursday evening’s 4-2 loss to the Buffaloes of Milligan College at Anglin Field on the Milligan College campus.

Putting together a solid hitting performance has been a problem for the Railsplitters (22-15) this week.  After winning a pitcher’s dual against Carson-Newman College on Wednesday night in which the Railsplitters were able to muster only four hits, LMU turned in another four-hit performance against Milligan Thursday evening and it wasn’t enough to get them over the hump of the Buffaloes.

Milligan’s Beau Alford gave a spectacular pitching performance by shutting out the Railsplitters over the first eight innings before allowing two runs (one earned) in the top of the ninth to come away with the 4-2 win.  Alford struck out six Railsplitter batters en route to the victory.

LMU pitcher Kyle Wakefield (Kalamazoo, MI) took the loss Thursday evening.  Wakefield falls to 3-1, suffering his first loss of the season in more than 50 innings on the mound this season.

The Railsplitters now turn their attention back to the Gulf South Conference schedule, as they travel this weekend to Florence, Alabama for a three game series with the #28 nationally ranked Lions of the University of North Alabama.  LMU is currently 5-4 in GSC Eastern Division play and needs at least a split to stay in contention for a conference tournament berth in early May in Millington, Tennessee.
