OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release April 26, 2006 Tusculum Baseball Scores Early In 13-2 Win Over LMU GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College baseball team erupted for nine runs in its first at-bat as the No. 24 Pioneers defeated visiting Lincoln Memorial University 13-2 Wednesday night at Pioneer Park. The Pioneers improve to 40-14-1 while LMU falls to 27-22 on the season. Tusculum now awaits word of a possible NCAA Tournament bid, which will be announced next month. The Railsplitters will be at Carson-Newman on Thursday before traveling to Montevallo for a huge conference series this weekend. The Pioneers sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning, including senior Skip Talarek as he tallied a pair of doubles to drive in a combined three runs. TC muscled out six hits, while taking advantage of four LMU errors in the opening frame. Senior southpaw Kenny Lewis pitched six strong innings as he allowed one run, scattered five hits, walked one and struck out three in his final home appearance. Lewis improved his record to 6-2 on the year, while tallying his 27th career victory, the second most wins in school history. Lewis also made his 45th career start, which is also second all-time at TC. LMU added a run in the third inning as Mike Richardson connected on a two-out single to drive in Wes Thompson. Tusculum added a run in the fifth and three in the sixth. Senior Rob Redelman drove in the first run in the sixth with his triple and crossed the plate himself on Tyler Mayfield's pinch hit home run. The Pioneers rattled off a dozen hits, including two hits each by Talarek, Kenny Reed and Tim Brown. LMU's Dustin Rowland had a 2-for-3 outing, along with Thompson's two-hit performance. This game also marks the final time
Tusculum and Lincoln Memorial will play as non-conference opponents. LMU
