OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release April 15, 2006 Record Setting Loss Doesn’t Deny LMU Series Win HARROGATE, TN – Although the Lincoln Memorial baseball team suffered its worst loss in baseball history Saturday afternoon 29-4, the Railsplitters had already taken care of business on Friday in the first two games of the series with West Alabama, winning 7-3 and 6-1 to win the series with a two games to one split. LMU’s Zach Gray (Columbia, TN) and Reed Neff (Brentwood, TN) both picked up wins in Friday’s double-header with the Tigers. However, with several Railsplitter players out of the line-up, the LMU pitching staff was shorthanded for Saturday’s final game and the end result was a 29-4 thrashing by the Tigers. Freshman Sean Mace (Florence, KY) got the loss in the final game of the series for Lincoln Memorial. However, Mace was just one of three Railsplitter pitchers that were battered by UWA hitters Saturday. Sergio Baez (Miami, FL) and Josh Amix (Harrogate, TN) also saw time on the mound, each taking their fair share of the lumps with four LMU errors not helping their cause any. Still, despite Saturday’s loss, the series spit with West Alabama puts the Railsplitters back in the hunt for a Gulf South Conference Tournament berth in next month’s conference championship to be held in Millington, Tennessee. At 7-8 in league play, the Railsplitters are currently battling with the University of West Florida for the #4 seed in the Eastern Division of the conference. The Argonauts are 7-7 entering this weekend’s three-game series with Lincoln Memorial to be played Saturday on the Lamar Hennon Field. Should LMU take the series, the Railsplitters will have to travel to Alabama and make a strong showing against the Falcons of Montevallo before they will officially receive a bid to this year’s GSC Tournament.-LMU- For additional
