OFFICE OF SPORTS INFORMATION Sports Release March 26, 2006 West Georgia Takes Series against LMU in Baseball CARROLLTON, GA – This weekend’s Gulf South Conference baseball series between the #23 ranked Railsplitters and the unranked Braves of the University of West Georgia dropped LMU’s conference mark to 4-2 in league play. The Braves took the first two games of the series from Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, winning 7-0 and 2-0 to hand the Railsplitters their first two losses in conference this season. LMU bounced back on Sunday to capture a 4-1 win over the Braves, but still lost the series two games to one. Joe Workman (Dayton, KY) got the loss 7-0 in Saturday’s first game to fall to 5-3 on the year. Workman gave up 13 hits over seven innings, allowing seven runs and four earned runs, while walking two batters and striking out four. Zach Gray (Columbia, TN) picked up Saturday’s second loss (2-0). Gray went six innings, giving up three hits, two runs and two earned runs, while walking two batters and striking out three. LMU’s only win, the 4-1 victory over the Braves in the series finale came Sunday when junior Reed Neff (Brentwood, TN) improved to 7-2 on the year, while helping LMU move to 20-11 overall and 4-2 in the GSC Eastern Division. Neff pitched eight innings, giving up seven hits, one run and no earned runs, while walking only two batters and striking out ten. Teammate Kyle Wakefield (Kalamazoo, MI) also recorded a save in the outing. Wakefield gave up no damage in the final inning and recorded a strikeout as he closed the door on West Georgia. LMU now takes several days to prepare for NAIA opponent Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee this Wednesday in a non-conference nine inning game. The Railsplitters will return to the LMU campus and the Lamar Hennon Field this weekend when they play host to the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday and Sunday in a three game series.-LMU- For additional
