LMU’s Baez Receives GSC Player of the Week Honors

HARROGATE, TN – Lincoln Memorial University centerfielder Sergio Baez (Miami, FL) has been named the Gulf South Conference Eastern Division Player of the Week by the conference office in Birmingham, Alabama.   

Last week, the 5’10” junior helped the Railsplitters earn their first conference sweep since April of 2002, taking three consecutive games from Valdosta State for the first time since joining the GSC in 1992. 

The South Florida native went 9-for-14 in four games last week, with three doubles, one homerun and six runs batted in.  Baez also boasted a 1.071 slugging percentage for the week and a .706 on base percentage.

Now 18-8 overall and 3-0 in the GSC, the Railsplitters have broken into the CBN Top 30 poll for the first time since the 2002 season.  Lincoln Memorial comes in at #23 this week and will play host to Mars Hill College Wednesday afternoon on the Lamar Hennon Field at 1:00 o’clock weather permitting.  LMU will play its next conference series this weekend in Carrollton, Georgia against the University of West Georgia.
